PRP: The All-Natural Game-Changer for Remedying Hair Loss and Facial Rejuvenation
Hair loss, wrinkles, and age spots are common as you get older, but you don’t have to live with them. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a minimally invasive treatment option that provides results.

If you’re one of the estimated 80 million adults living with unwanted hair loss in the United States or countless adults wishing for more youthful-looking skin, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy may be the solution you’ve been longing for. This minimally invasive treatment uses substances in your own blood to stimulate your body’s natural healing processes and, thereby, can benefit your scalp and skin.

How PRP therapy works

During PRP therapy, we draw a small amount of your blood from your arm then place it in a centrifuge. This machine spins rapidly, separating fluids and cells of varied densities. These substances include platelets and plasma. We use the plasma and platelets, which have proteins called growth factors, to make the platelet-dense serum.

Once injected into treatment areas, the PRP can stimulate collagen growth, which benefits your skin. More recently, PRP therapy has been used to stimulate hair growth.

PRP effectiveness

While more research is needed regarding the effectiveness of PRP therapy, we have found that multiple sessions and regular follow-up visits bring out optimal results for both skin issues and hair loss. Results vary from person to person based on factors such as your skin type and the extent of any hair loss.

At MDCS, we often combine PRP therapy with other treatments, such as microneedling, to achieve the best possible results. We’re pleased to have helped many people enjoy noticeable benefits.

How many PRP treatments you need

Each PRP therapy treatment plan is customized to suit the individual. In general, PRP therapy requires around three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. From there, you may benefit from a maintenance treatment every four to six months or so.

Safety of PRP therapy for hair growth

Because PRP therapy is only minimally invasive and uses substances from your own body, it brings far fewer risks than procedures such as hair transplants. Like all cosmetic procedures, though, it may cause side effects. These include infection, scar tissue, calcification at injection points, and injury to nerves or blood vessels. Working with a qualified professional can lower these risks.

Good candidates for PRP therapy

PRP therapy is generally considered safe for adults experiencing hair loss, skin problems, or both. If an underlying medical condition is at play, you should have that addressed as well.

The treatment may not be ideal for you if you have medical issues such as a chronic skin or liver disease, cancer, or an infection. For the best possible results, discuss your overall wellness and treatment goals with your health care providers prior to treatment.
