Hair loss can be emotionally challenging, but innovative treatments like PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy offer non-surgical, natural-looking solutions. At MDCS Dermatology, Michael Tassavor, MD, MS helps patients regain confidence through personalized PRP hair restoration sessions.
What Is PRP Hair Restoration?
PRP uses the healing properties found in your own blood to stimulate hair follicles, promote growth, and strengthen existing strands. It’s ideal for early stages of hair thinning and androgenetic alopecia.
Before the Treatment
Consultation: Dr. Tassavor will assess your hair loss pattern, medical history, and scalp health to determine if PRP is right for you.
Prep: Little to no preparation is needed. You may be advised to avoid alcohol, blood thinners, and anti-inflammatories before treatment.
During the Procedure
Step 1: Blood Draw – A small sample of your blood is taken, similar to routine lab work.
Step 2: Centrifugation – The blood is spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma.
Step 3: Scalp Injections – PRP is injected into targeted areas of the scalp using fine needles.
Most sessions take about 30–45 minutes. A numbing agent may be applied to reduce discomfort.
After the Treatment
Minimal Downtime: You can return to normal activities the same day.
Mild Side Effects: Temporary redness, tenderness, or swelling at injection sites may occur and usually subside within 24–48 hours.
Hair Washing: Avoid washing your hair for about 24 hours post-treatment.
When to Expect Results
Visible results typically appear after 3–4 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart. Hair becomes thicker, stronger, and less prone to shedding. Maintenance sessions may be needed every 6–12 months.
