Microneedling at MDCS Dermatology is a minimally invasive treatment that stimulates collagen production to improve skin texture, fine lines, acne scars, and overall skin tone. Using advanced devices such as SkinPen® and Dermapen®, our board-certified dermatologists deliver safe, precise, and effective collagen induction therapy across our Manhattan, Long Island, and New Jersey locations.
Microneedling—also known as collagen induction therapy—uses a handheld device with fine, sterile needles to create micro-injuries in the skin. These microchannels trigger the body’s natural healing process, increasing collagen and elastin production. As the skin repairs itself, it becomes smoother, firmer, and more evenly toned.
At MDCS Dermatology, we use industry-leading microneedling technologies, including SkinPen, the first FDA-cleared microneedling device, and Dermapen, known for its precision and customizable depth control. Both systems allow our providers to tailor each treatment based on your skin’s needs and desired outcome.
Microneedling is part of our comprehensive cosmetic dermatology services.

After cleansing the area, your provider may apply a topical anesthetic to ensure comfort. The SkinPen or Dermapen device is then passed over the skin to create controlled microchannels.
Most patients resume normal activities quickly. Initial brightness and smoothness appear within a week, while collagen development continues for several weeks.
For long-term improvement, a series of 3–4 sessions is often recommended.
Microneedling at MDCS Dermatology is performed by skilled dermatologists and licensed medical providers who customize treatment depth, technique, and device selection (SkinPen or Dermapen) based on your goals and skin concerns.

Microneedling—also known as collagen induction therapy—is a treatment that uses fine, sterile needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This stimulates collagen and elastin production, improving texture, tone, and overall skin quality.
MDCS Dermatology uses industry-leading devices including SkinPen® (FDA-cleared) and Dermapen®, allowing providers to customize depth and technique for safe, effective results.
Microneedling can improve fine lines, acne scars, enlarged pores, rough texture, dullness, mild pigmentation, and certain stretch marks. It is especially effective for textural irregularities and early signs of aging.
A topical numbing cream is typically applied before treatment, making the procedure very tolerable. Most patients describe a mild vibration or prickling sensation.
Downtime is minimal. Expect mild redness similar to a light sunburn for 24–48 hours. Some patients may experience minor flaking as the skin renews.
While some improvement can be seen after one treatment, most patients benefit from a series of 3–4 sessions spaced several weeks apart for optimal collagen stimulation.
Initial brightness and smoothness appear within the first week. Collagen growth continues over several weeks, with peak results visible around 4–6 weeks after treatment.
